🌊 Outdoor Education Students Connect with the Columbia 🌄 As the golds of September glowed over Columbia Lake, 21 Selkirk Secondary students, including 10 international students, set out on a 3-day canoe expedition — learning about water, community, connection, teamwork, and the geography of the Columbia River headwaters. 💬 “Our biggest challenge is shifting our mentality from a ‘me-centered’ outlook to one that considers everyone and everything– and emphasizes the qualities of good expeditionary behaviour and outdoor leadership,” teacher Jenn Meens said. Over the journey, students practiced key Expeditionary Behaviours and Outdoor Leadership Skills like: 🌿 Disconnecting to connect 💧 Environmental stewardship 💪 Supporting group goals and individual growth 📸 Stay tuned for the class Photo & Story Night in January 2026, when students will share reflections and stories from this unforgettable adventure! #HighSchoolinCanada #OutdoorEducation #ExperientialLearning #GetOutside #LearningBeyondTheClassroom
