What I learned at school today by Kathrin K.
I learn lots of different things at school everyday, but I don’t think I am going to use a lot of them when I am back at school in Germany, just because I don’t have these subjects there. I will be able to use some of them in my everyday live though, because I am taking Food Studies and Textiles this Semester.
So far, my favourite is Textiles. I really enjoy sewing back home too, and I am excited to learn more about it once we really start sewing. Right now we are doing embroidery, which I also like a lot. We started by learning a ton of different stitches that we had to represent in a more creative way than just embroidering them next to each other. I chose to do a blue whale for my design and I had lots of fun doing it. For our final project in embroidery we had to choose a quote that we can identify with in some way and think of a design that we could do to go with it. It took me a long time to pick one, because I am the most indecisive person ever.
I also really like Food Studies and the things we learn there. We are covering a lot of aspects about nutrition and what is healthy food and how to buy it on a low budget and I think that’s really useful, considering the students will soon be living on their own. I also love that we cook a big variety of things, our teacher even gave us some vegan recipes already. Right now we are cooking a Ukrainian meal to show support to Ukraine, which, in my opinion, was a great idea of our teacher. Overall I have to admit that this semester, I like my classes better than the ones I had before, just because they are more fun, although I do miss my Arts class from the first semester.
